For our second assignment we got to do portrait shots, which I was especially excited about because I got to do hair and makeup. We also had to play with the ISO and light, but we were not allowed to use a flash. My first model was my high school neighbor who I dressed up as a fairy and sent her trudging through the muddy woods. Models are more difficult than objects because you have to explain your vision to them in a way that they can understand and portray it. As an artist, it is always important to keep an open mind. "Spread your wings and let the fairy in you fly! (Author Unknown)" My second model was my boyfriend who I made look a sadist. I handed him a machete and took him into my creepy basement. However, I had a little trouble shooting inside without a flash. I set the ISO to 500 or 1000 like I was told to, but my shaky hands kept making the pictures blurry, so i set the camera on a sturdy surface. After that, the pictures were awesome! Kinda scary that my boyfriend made such a good sadist model. "Sadism is not an infectious disease that strikes a person all of a sudden. It has a long prehistory in childhood and always originates in the desperate fantasies of a child who is searching for a way out of a hopeless situation (Alice Miller)."
